Welcome home Mannie 18 April 2025

Mannie was brought from theme park Mondo Verde in the Netherlands to ZooLogistics at Schiphol, from where he flew to Johannesburg on a KLM flight on April 17. Upon arrival at the airport, the team from The Lions Foundation was ready to receive him, after which a 2.5 hour drive followed to his new home. At 7 a.m. by daylight Mannie was released in his enclosure. Mannie endured the long journey well and is now quietly getting used to his new home.
When he is settled in, he can also use his big enclosure of 1.5 hectares.

History of Mannie
Mannie is a 6-year-old African lion. Mannie was rejected by his father, which is why he has been living in isolation for several years. His father and mother lived in a separate enclosure. The theme park Mondo Verde had been trying to find a new location for Mannie for a long time, but all the alternative locations turned out to be unsuitable. Both Mondo Verde and Bite Back are very happy that a suitable location has now been found for Mannie. Bite Back raised the necessary money for the move through a fundraising campaign with World Animal Protection. It took several months to get all the paperwork in order, followed by a quarantine period of four weeks, before Mannie could move to his new enclosure.
