Kahn the leopard has been released! 19 October 2024

We are very proud to have been able to assist the Conservation Authorities of North West (Dedect) and Limpopo (Ledet), with the rehabilitation, satellite collaring and the successful release of this beautiful young leopard male.

The release could not have gone better!

Kahn was caught on a farmland in the North West Province. Unfortunately, the capture cage was not suitable for a leopard, and he broke off all of his baby teeth, trying to escape from the cage.

He spent the first few months of his rehabilitation, at Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre, and spent the rest of it here with us, until he was able to be released, and hunt for himself.
While under sedation, we were able to measure him, check his mouth and claws etc. and vaccinate him. We are thrilled to see how beautifully his teeth have grown and his claws are quite spectacular too!
While he was with us, apart from feeding him, he had minimal human contact, so that he never becomes comfortable around humans.

Thank you so much to Dr Peter Caldwell and Dr Paul Bartels, who assisted us with his care and the successful release of this magnificent predator.
Thank you to everyone who contributed towards his satellite collar, in order for us to track his movements.
